Happy Birthday Ella!

Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday Sweet Ella
Happy Birthday to you!!

My E,
On October 30, 2007 at 11:12 am, you entered this big world and changed my life forever. With daddy's eyes and a little button nose, I don't think I have ever smiled so much as the moment you were handed to me. You made me a mom. You have taught me more in the past two years than I ever imagined. My heart has grown immensely with love from day one...you are my heart, my soul, my precious child.

Your laugh makes me laugh. Your smile makes me smile. The sound of your voice saying "I love you mommy" is the sweetest sound I have ever heard. Last year at this time, you were trying to be a little chatter box and this year, well you are quite the garrulous little girl. Speaking in complete sentences, singing songs and reading books to me (from memory of course), telling knock-knock jokes (especially when you get in trouble and you try to distract me from being mad), trying hard to color within the lines (Uncle Bryan would be so proud), putting your own shoes on, picking out your own clothes, comforting me when I am sad and missing daddy, and traveling the world with me...how has so much changed in 365 days? You have grown into a big two year old and you make me so very happy. Thank you for teaching me patience, giving me strength and for loving me unconditionally.

Happy 2nd Birthday, Sweet Ella. I love you bunches upon bunches.

Love,
Mommy

Dearest "E",

I can't even begin to tell you how hard it has been watching you grow from a distance. The last six months of the second year of your life has found me trying to get you to answer me on the phone or prodding your mother to follow you around the house on a Skype loaded computer. I know you don't understand why I am away but I am sure you understand that I love you. You have made me hate teenange boys already. In fact, when I get home I am buying a gun, to be cleaned when the boys start picking you up, when you are 25. I adore your excitement when I come home from work. I dread the thought of your face at airports. You have taught me to be a grown up, a provider, a dad. Though it is time for you to expand your library on "knock knock jokes" I still crack a smile when a "puppy" is "who's there". I love that you are a world traveler, like your mother, though you have a pretty high carbon footprint for a two year old. Good thing your mom and I aren't carbon credit buying granola eaters. So stay strong little root...I love you...until I am home again, Your Pops.

October 2009 Two Years Old

Happy National Candy Corn Day! Ella is dressed for the occasion:) Before I went into labor with Ella, I was an emotional wreck. I was six days overdue and bored and was doing research on dates that she could possibly be born on. October 30th is National Candy Corn Day and even though I had NO clue that day actually existed before the birth of my daughter, it has special meaning to our family now. Not to mention Ella is a HUGE candy corn fan and calls them "mini corns". So not only is it her birthday, but shoot, it's a day to celebrate candy corn. Do you need more of a reason to celebrate than that?
